Abstract Tiles

Fired in the microwave kiln.
Small glass pieces (same coe) piled on top of each other - slightly different sizes.
Fire each 'tile' separately.
Unfortunately using a microwave kiln, you are a bit limited in the sizing of pieces.
Probably the largest you can make is just a bit under 4" dia.
It is quite limiting, but you can still get some nice work done - - (maybe glue them together if you want a larger piece!)

Silver Foil (high fire)

Trying experiments with High Fire silver foil. 
1. (from left to right) - fired glass on High.  The foil disappeared and left a slight sheen behind.

2. Fired two small pieces of clear glass on a Medium heat - the silver foil stayed.  I was a bit worried about over fusing the glass again.

3. Fused the foil between 2 pieces of clear glass, and fused on Medium heat, for a little longer, until the glass melted/fused.  The silver foil stayed - and still looked silver.  This was the best method.

Quite Fishy

These were mainly put together with pre-fused bits that I had broken up

from other unwanted pieces, nipped a bit and re-fused.

The eye and mouth detail were painted on using enamel glass paint.

Galaxy

I fused this glass using copper oxide sandwiched between clear glass, chipped it into shape, refired it, then added some gold paint to the 'holes'/'pits'.

Millefiore Pendants

The teeny millefiori were glass tac'd together in a shape, fired, then just nipped where necessary and refired -

they are really pretty, but rather fiddly to make! 

Splats

These 'Splats' are easy to make, and can be used as coasters or paperweights.

Using 2mm strips - 2 layers of glass - place them in a star shape (either 5 or 6 arms), connected by a central piece, also 2 layers thick - (so they will all fuse together.)  

Then place a small (eg. 1cm. square approx.) on the end of each arm.  Use tacky glass glue to stick them down. 

Make sure your final measured piece does not exceed the internal diameter of your microwave kiln.  You can drawn a rough shape on to the Thinfire Kiln Paper, and use this as your template.

I usually fire most of my pieces on Medium and find I have a lot less breakages.

You can randomly use up bits of unwanted glass, or already fused pieces that you have cut up to re-use - (or you can actually design what you're making!)

Experiments

This is copper oxide powder, gold enamel paint and gold flakes, sandwiched between plain glass pieces. Fired on medium/high - until cooked.

This was a small piece of copper foil and gold paint, sandwiched between plain glass pieces.  Came out oddly but rather like an abstract painting!  (like it :o) )

Also fired on medium/high.

Small red triangles on top of white/vanilla rectangles. 

Dots are white enamel glass paint, and added millefiori on the top piece.

Shoal of Fish

 Before firing - using little shards and cut pieces

This was painted with black glass enamel paint. Allow the pain to dry then decorated with white enamel paint.

Small millifiori were added.

this is a before and after for my Fish.

They are fun to make, as you can use up lots of your 'bits' that you're 

not too sure what to do with.

The pieces are placed on a clear glass fish-shaped base - cut from clear glass, and fired in the Microwave - usually on Medium or Medium High.
Watch them carefully, though, they can completely splat out if you fire them for too long.

mosaic effect with glass bits

I was trying to achieve a mosaic/crushed china effect (sort of) and this is how it came out ..........

I fired it on High (in the microwave kiln) - carefully! until it was fused to where

I wanted it to be.  You do have to keep watching pieces, as

I've found the microwave kiln to be a little 'hit and miss' - you do tend to have to watch things,

if you want to be precious with them.

clear glass with dichroic squares

these are millefiori  fused together.  If you fuse them with other glass you may have in your stash,

and  dont know the Coe numbers, they may not  be compatible eg. Coe 90 with Coe 96,

they may well crack your fused piece.  

Sometimes this doesn't happen immediately, but may well do at some stage later.
